Text

"Of mountains and hills there is a great number. The whole face of the country indeed consists of hills separated by narrow valleys. These hills are unusually denominated from the townlands in which they are situated. The most considerable are Crocknacunny, Mindilpier, Croaghbrack and Rusheen. Overrun as they are with heath, they are pasturable to a certain degree, being covered in summer with considerable herds of black cattle. Cultivation had during the last war crept up their sides to a good height but, through the low prices of agricultural products and the bad prospect of remuneration, has since reverted again to the vales."
