Text

"Through such scenes I passed, until I at length reached the goal of my long-nourished desire. Many boats, which had conveyed many voyagers to the 'Saint-ridden Isle' (asking favour of the 'First gem of the sea,') were still moored along the beach. In one of these I took my seat, and was quickly transported to this 'elysium on earth' - Purgatory."
