"The lakes [of the Parish of Templecarn] amount to 110, of which Lough Derg is the most extensive. This fine sheet of water contains 42 islands, spreads itself over 2,140 acres and lies embosomed in wild hills and bog. Its depth is stated to be 120 feet.
