"…Tirechan says that Patrick founded a Church in Tirhugh. Where now is the location of that church? Doctor John Healy, the prolific and well-known writer on early Irish history, believed that the church in question was in the parish of Templecarne. Now, I would not wish it to appear that I am giving Dr. Healy a place as an authority on Celtic history which he himself would not have claimed, and to which he is not entitled. But in this case it happens that no other church in the barony of Tirhugh ever put forward the claim to be of Patrician foundation except the church in the parish of Templecarne. The graveyard of Templecarne is within a couple of miles of Lough Derg on the Pettigo side. Among its ruins are the butts of the walls of an old church. By a process of elimination, this must be the site more or less of the church founded by Saint Patrick in the barony of Tirhugh."
