AD 1399 - Murder of Raymond, an Italian noble, at Lough Derg by Ugolino, his sister's lover. (Raymond had murdered his own sister on account of her intimacy with Ugolino. He was doing penance for his crime on Lough Derg when he was himself murdered by Ugolino in revenge. The tragedy gave rise to a ghost story, which has persisted till the present day)
