On the mountains masses of a kind of fine-grained granite present themselves, which in some places have a very beautiful appearance in consequence of the quantity of mica which they contain. In many places these masses of granite afford a convenient resting place for the pilgrims, who pass over these mountains to Lough Derg, and they have in consequence been work perfectly smooth. When the rays of the sun strike on these in a particular direction they seem like rocks of solid silver. This appearance was at one time so beautiful as almost to realise for a moment the visions of Eastern fable, but the moment we change our situation the delusion was lost and nothing remained but the naked rock and the barren mountain." </text>
